How to Choose a Business Coach for Therapists in the UK

How to choose a business coach for therapists in the UK, a guide by Tracy Vinnicombe of The Therapists' Coach

The short answer

There isn’t one best business coach for therapists in the UK. There’s the best one for where your practice is right now.

Here are six UK coaches who work with therapists and publish their prices and formats on their own websites: Tracy Vinnicombe (The Therapists’ Coach), Abby Rawlinson (Therapy with Abby), Martin Hogg (Private Practice Success), Sarah D Rees, Josephine Hughes (Therapy Growth Group) and Jane Travis (Grow Your Private Practice). On their own websites, all six describe running a practice of their own. They differ in who they work with, how they work and what they charge.

I’m Tracy, and yes, I’m one of the six. I’ve written this the way I’d want it written if I were choosing. You’ll find real prices, real formats and a straight view on who each coach suits, including when that isn’t me.

Prices were checked on each coach’s own website in October 2026. They change, so confirm before you book.

What to look for in a business coach for therapists

A good coach for therapists has built a practice of their own, understands your ethical code and fits the stage you’re at. Check these five things before you pay anyone.

  1. They’ve run a practice themselves. You want someone who has filled a diary, handled a no-show and raised their fees, because advice from lived experience is specific where theory is vague.
  2. Their marketing sits comfortably with your professional body. Pushy tactics can breach the BACP, UKCP, NCPS or FHT codes, so the coach needs to know where the lines are.
  3. They work with your type of practice. Counsellors, psychotherapists, massage therapists, reflexologists and yoga teachers sell in different ways. Ask who their clients are.
  4. The format fits your week. 1:1 coaching gives you speed and tailored answers. A membership costs less and gives you company. Choose the one you’ll turn up to.
  5. The price matches your stage. A new practice rarely needs £1,500 of coaching. A full practice wanting income beyond 1:1 hours rarely gets enough from a £7 membership.

Ask for a free call first. Most coaches offer a free call or a low-cost first step, so you can try before you commit.

Tracy Vinnicombe, The Therapists’ Coach

That’s me. I’ve been self-employed for 28 years and a sports massage therapist for 21 of them, and I still treat clients every week. In 2026 I won Best Wellness Sector Business Coach at the SME UK Enterprise Awards. I work with massage therapists, reflexologists, yoga and Pilates teachers, hypnotherapists, counsellors and clinic owners.

My focus is getting you from qualified to booked, then building income that doesn’t depend on your hands or your hours. My options run from a £66 a month membership to a six-month programme at £1,500, and the table below has the full price range.

If you’d like to talk it through, book a free 30-minute discovery session. You can see everything I offer on my services page.

Choose me if you’re a hands-on or holistic practitioner, or you’re fully booked and want to earn beyond 1:1 work. Look elsewhere if you want a coach who is a registered counsellor or psychotherapist themselves.

Abby Rawlinson, Therapy with Abby

Abby is an integrative therapist, the author of Reclaiming You (Penguin, 2024) and a former marketing strategist. She has built a large Instagram following and a business that mixes therapy, courses and brand partnerships.

She offers a Power Hour (£175 for 60 minutes, £250 for 90), a three-month Deep Mentorship (£1,500) and a 12-week group programme called The Steady Practice. Choose Abby if social media and content are how you want to be found. Look elsewhere if you’d rather not build your business around social media.

Martin Hogg, Private Practice Success

Martin is an MBACP counsellor with 21 years in UK private practice. He presents CPD for the BACP and says he has mentored more than 1,400 UK therapists since 2011.

His Private Practice Success community costs £7 a month, or £19 a month with weekly group coaching. Choose Martin if you’re a solo counsellor who wants affordable, ethical, step-by-step guidance and you’re happy learning in a group. Look elsewhere if you want one-to-one attention, or you work hands-on rather than as a counsellor.

Sarah D Rees

Sarah is a CBT, CFT and EMDR therapist in Cheshire and the author of The Therapist’s Guide to Private Practice. Her three-month 1:1 programme includes six sessions, her Getting Started course and a year in her Therapists Corner community for £1,500.

She takes three to five therapists a year. Choose Sarah if you want values-led, close 1:1 support from a psychological therapist and you can wait for a space. Look elsewhere if you want to start straight away or need a lower-cost option.

Josephine Hughes, Therapy Growth Group

Josephine is a counsellor who has mentored other counsellors since 2018 and hosts the Good Enough Counsellors podcast. Therapy Growth Group is £60 a month with no minimum term. It includes coaching calls, work sessions and peer supervision across the week.

Choose Josephine if you’re a BACP or NCPS registered counsellor who wants regular accountability and help with directory profiles. Look elsewhere if you aren’t a counsellor, or you want a plan built just for you rather than group sessions.

Jane Travis, Grow Your Private Practice

Jane has more than 20 years in counselling and now works as a marketing consultant for therapists. She hosts The Grow Your Private Practice Show. Her Complete Support Package runs for three months and costs £947. It covers your messaging, your directory and Google profiles, then your content.

Choose Jane if you already have a website and need your message sharpened so the right clients get in touch. Look elsewhere if you’re still building your website, or you want ongoing coaching rather than a three-month project.

Which coach suits you?

Match the coach to your stage and your type of practice, then to your budget.

  • Newly qualified counsellor on a tight budget: Martin Hogg’s community or Josephine Hughes’s Therapy Growth Group. Both cost less than one client session a month.
  • Starting or relaunching and you want someone beside you: Sarah D Rees’s 1:1 programme, or my Fast Track.
  • You have a website and the wrong clients keep turning up: Jane Travis.
  • You want to grow through Instagram and content: Abby Rawlinson.
  • You’re a massage therapist, reflexologist, yoga teacher, hypnotherapist or other hands-on or holistic practitioner: me. Several coaches on this list focus mainly on counsellors and psychotherapists, so ask who their clients are.
  • You’re fully booked and can’t add more hours: me or Abby. We both help therapists build courses, groups and digital offers.

Two coaches can suit you at different times. Plenty of therapists start in a low-cost membership and move to 1:1 coaching once the diary is steady.

How much does a business coach for therapists cost in the UK?

A business coach for therapists in the UK costs from £7 a month for a community to around £1,500 for three to six months of 1:1 coaching.

Longer 1:1 programmeAround £1,500Sarah D Rees (three months), Abby Rawlinson (three months), Accelerator (six months, payment plan available)

Coaching for your business is usually an allowable business expense if you’re self-employed. Check with your accountant, because it depends on your circumstances.

A quick way to judge value: work out how many extra client sessions would cover the fee. At £60 a session, a £297 package pays for itself with five extra bookings, as long as you act on the advice and the bookings follow.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best business coach for therapists in the UK?

It depends on your practice. Tracy Vinnicombe of The Therapists’ Coach suits hands-on and holistic practitioners and therapists building income beyond 1:1 work. Abby Rawlinson suits therapists growing through content. Martin Hogg and Josephine Hughes offer low-cost communities for counsellors. Sarah D Rees and Jane Travis offer three-month 1:1 support.

What does a business coach for therapists do?

A business coach for therapists helps you with the parts of practice your training left out. That covers pricing, getting found, turning enquiries into bookings, rebooking, systems and planning income beyond 1:1 sessions. A coach doesn’t advise on your clinical work.

How much does a business coach for therapists cost?

In the UK, memberships cost £7 to £66 a month, single sessions cost £97 to £250 and 1:1 programmes of three to six months cost around £1,500.

What’s the difference between a business coach and clinical supervision?

Clinical supervision protects your clients and supports your clinical practice, and most professional bodies require it. Business coaching is optional and looks after the business itself, such as your fees, marketing and income. One doesn’t replace the other.

Is business coaching worth it for a therapist?

It’s worth it when the fee is smaller than the income it helps you create. If a £297 package helps you fill three empty slots a week at £60, it has paid for itself within two weeks. It’s less likely to pay off if you don’t have time to act on the advice.

Do I need a coach who is also a therapist?

It helps. A coach who has run a practice understands confidentiality, professional codes and how uncomfortable selling can feel when your work is care. Each coach on this page describes running a practice of their own.
